Fiesta unites cultures through faith

A MULTICULTURAL feast was seen and enjoyed on April 18 in Brisbane archdiocese.

Coordinated by the Ethnic Youth Ministry Council, the "Multicultural Fiesta" in southside Runcorn brought together an array of cultures and diversity celebrated with dance, song, food and prayer.

"The Multicultural Fiesta was made possible through the coming together of Catholic ethnic youth in the Archdiocese of Brisbane," Centre for Multicultural Pastoral Care director Clyde Cosentino said.

Assisted by a deanery grant, the council is implementing the archdiocese's "Jesus Communion Mission" vision and the nine synod priorities within the Catholic ethnic communities in Brisbane, he said.

"(The Multicultural Fiesta) is a witness to the solidarity and unity among young people in the Catholic Church, particularly in the ethnic communities, brought about by the fire that was set alight by World Youth Day in Australia in 2008," Mr Cosentino said.  

"Two years on, the young people of ethnic communities in Brisbane are still fired up by the legacy of World Youth Day."

Various "honoured guests" were present for the event including Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Oudeman of Brisbane.
