STUDENTS at St Mary's Primary School, Ipswich, dug deep into their hearts - and their pockets - to help the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.

The school community responded to the call for aid for the survivors of the earthquake in Haiti with a gold coin day.
Families and friends of the school community also visited the "Hope for Haiti" poster designed by the students to place coins on "a rainbow of hope".

St Mary's assistant principal for religious education Dale Upton said some students brought along their moneyboxes to add coins to the collection.

"In conjunction with the introduction of Making Jesus Real program to our school this year, we continue to encourage each other to act like Jesus by giving others a hand," Ms Upton said.

"In collecting this money for Haiti we know that we are joining with other students in the Brisbane Catholic Education family in giving a hand to the numerous victims of this horrific disaster," she said.
