STUDENTS at Holy Cross primary school, Wooloowin, have spent the past few months putting the needs of other first but now it's their own community's turn.

Students and their families are looking forward to the school's annual festival, to be held on May 22, and are hoping to raise enough funds to complete a few of their own projects.

So far this year the small community of 277 students - 50 of them members of the Mini Vinnies - has donated $2000 to a twin Catholic primary school affected by the January floods and raised about $4000 for Caritas Australia's Project Compassion.

Holy Cross Festival Committee member Natalie Finney said the school community proudly "work with God for others", as the school motto declared, by fundraising for communities, nationally and internationally.

"However once a year, we turn our efforts toward our own school who relies on this fundraiser to improve its facilities and resources," she said.

"Holy Cross School is soon to enjoy the opening of its new Information, Technology and Science Building, thanks to the Federal Government's 'Building the Education Revolution'.

"This year our P & F Association aims to assist with the funding of IT equipment and the transition towards becoming a wireless campus, in addition to air conditioning some areas of the school."

Ms Finney said the festival was a crucial fundraiser and the Holy Cross School community welcomed everyone to join them between 10am and 3pm at the Wooloowin site.

Lutwyche parish priest Fr John Fitz-Herbert will bless the 2011 festival.
