Privacy Policy
The Catholic Leader is owned and published by The Corporation of the Trustees of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane. The Catholic Leader, and its associated publications and online services (hereafter referred to as 'The Catholic Leader'), respects the privacy rights of all our clients, customers and online users. We are sensitive to concerns about confidentiality, security and the use of personal information and would like to assure you of our position on these matters.
The Catholic Leader is bound by the National Privacy Principles in the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000 in relation to the handling of personal information.
The Privacy Act exempts acts and practices engaged in by media organisations in the course of journalism (section 7B (4)).
Where appropriate we will handle personal information relying on the media exemption, but complying with the Australasian Religious Press Association's Charter of Rights and Responsibilities of the Religious Press and the Australian Press Council's Privacy Standards.
Collection of personal information
Personal information will only be collected to the extent necessary, by lawful and fair means, and for specified purposes which are relevant to the operations of The Catholic Leader and its services.
When personal information is collected directly from the individual to whom it relates, the purpose of collection will be identified and it will only be collected with the person's consent.
From time to time, we may also use agents or service providers to collect personal information.
We may also acquire lists from other sources from within the Catholic Church, public documents or other companies. Certain non-personal information (eg Internet browser, type of operating system, IP address and domain name) may also be collected when you visit our Web pages and this may be used but not limited to improving the content of our sites.
Use of personal information
We may use collected personal information to provide and/or improve our goods and services to you, for administrative purposes associated with these goods and services, to enter into contracts with you or third parties and for research, marketing and client relationship purposes.
The Catholic Leader will only use or disclose information for the purpose(s) it was collected and will not disclose or distribute to a third party any such information that is supplied without your specific consent, unless we are required to do so by law, or for any other purpose specified under the Privacy provisions for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane.
Personal information may also be used in aggregate form for the purposes outlined above.
Access to personal information
You may at any time request access to your personal information. If you believe that any of the personal information held by us is incomplete or inaccurate, in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy legislation, you have the right to notify us and make any updates or corrections.
Individual privacy issues can be discussed with the Administration Manager of The Catholic Leader.
Formal complaints, in the first instance, should be lodged with the Editor for investigation and resolution.
If you believe that your privacy has been breached and such a complaint is unable to be resolved at this level, a complaint may then be made in writing to the Moderator, Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane. In order for such complaints to be properly investigated, they should identify the person whose privacy appears to have been breached and how their privacy has been breached. Anonymous complaints will not be dealt with.
