Empty promises from cloning advocates

Published: 30 October 2011

THANK you for Fr Kevin McGovern's succinct report on the cloning and embryo research review committee deliberations (Centrepoint, CL 23/10/11).

Cloning, whether "therapeutic" or "reproductive" is the same thing.

While the current empty promise of a breakthrough softens the public toward therapeutic cloning, reproductive cloning is regarded suspiciously.

Yet, the science is the same - cloning, by whatever technical means, results in an embryo.

A "therapeutic" embryo is destined for destruction, a "reproductive" embryo (in theory) destined for adult life.

It's only a matter of which bin you put it in - the waste or recycling.
