Choices in affluence

Published: 15 August 2010

WE, the vast majority of Australians, are way too spoilt, aren't we?

Our politicians are busy trying to out-do each other promising us bucket-loads of money for this or that, or convincing us that they will be the most frugal with our billions so that our nation can maintain its affluence.

We can choose which deal will give us the best share of that affluence. I don't think we're being asked to choose between which party will offer the best deal for the less fortunate amongst us living on the streets (page 1).

At least, it's not a choice that is given much attention.

And, if now's not the right time to be dealing with such matters, when is?
